HRC Expands Texas Field Organizing Team

Post submitted by David Topping, HRC Texas Field Manager

Last week, HRC Texas brought on two new organizers to fight back against anti-LGBTQ legislation: Erika Galindo and Marlon Duran. Galindo and Duran join a team of five field staff across the Lone Star State.

HRC is currently monitoring a slew of anti-LGBTQ legistation in Texas, including HB 3859, a bill that would allow sweeping discrimination by foster care and adoption agencies against potential parents based on the agencies’ religious beliefs, and HB 2899, an anti-transgender bill that would force transgender people to use facilities inconsistent with their gender identity.

HRC is proud to be in coalition with Equality Texas, ACLU of Texas, the Texas Freedom Network and the Transgender Education Network of Texas to defeat legislation that threatens the rights of LGBTQ Texans and their families. We will continue to be on the ground throughout the legislative  session, engaging HRC members, supporters, and allies to fight back against anti-LGBTQ legislation.

Galindo will cover Hidalgo and Starr counties and Duran will cover Cameron and Willacy counties.

The next month is critical in Texas. As the legislature goes through their final weeks, more anti-LGBTQ attacks will arise. Volunteer with HRC Texas to help push back against anti-LGBTQ legislation.
