Call for Annual Awards

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) 2009 Carolinas Gala Committee and the North Carolina Steering Committee are seeking nominations from residents of North and South Carolina for the annual Equality Awards.

The awards will be presented at the 2009 HRC Carolinas Gala on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at the Charlotte Convention Center.

HRC represents a grassroots force of more than 700,000 members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, HRC envisions an America where GLBT people are assured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.

Equality awards are intended to recognize individual and organizational leadership related to the service of the LGBT community in North and South Carolina, and to the mission statement of the Human Rights Campaign. Recipient demonstrate a passion and drive to eliminate discrimination for LGBT people, and exemplifies the HRC mission. Awards nominees can be individuals, not-for-profit organizations, and for profit organizations.

According to Tim Cable, Awards Committee Chair, “There are many individuals and organizations in both states who work tirelessly for tolerance, fairness, and equality. The open call for nominations ensures that we have an opportunity to reflect our diverse community and the inspirational efforts toward achieving full acceptance and equality. HRC believes that an open process for nominations allows maximum involvement and consideration of our entire community – lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and our straight allies.”

All nominations must be submitted on the Award Nomination Form, linked below. Nominees, as well as, the nominating individual, must be a resident of North or South Carolina. Nominations should be sent by email to: dinner@hrccarolinas.org, or by U.S. mail to: 2009 HRC Carolinas Dinner, PO Box 11951, Charlotte, NC 28220. Nominations must be received no later than Friday, November 7, 2008.
